3 Mistakes I Constantly See When Choosing a Brand Name

Being too descriptive, confusing free social media handles with registered trademarks, and choosing an unpronounceable name. Creativity matters, but legal viability determines if you can keep it.

3 mistakes I constantly see when choosing a brand name, and which end up being costly: 1️⃣ Being too descriptive. "Online Clothing Store" isn't a brand, it's a description. Almost impossible to register. 2️⃣ Confusing a free social media handle with a registered trademark. Just because the @ is available doesn't mean the name is yours. If an identical registered trademark already exists in your sector, they can force you to change everything: logo, packaging, social media... 3️⃣ Choosing a name that is impossible to pronounce or spell. If you have to explain it every time you say it, you have a marketing problem before a legal one. Creativity matters, but legal viability is what determines whether or not you can keep the name.
