Every 10 years your trademark needs renewing

Renewal doesn't happen automatically. If the grace period passes, the trademark expires, and you lose the accumulated legal seniority. Do you have your trademark dates under control?

A registered trademark doesn't last forever without any action. Every 10 years it needs to be renewed, and this is one of the dates that most companies overlook. Unlike other procedures, no one automatically notifies you when the date approaches (unless you've contracted a monitoring service). If you miss the deadline, there's an additional 6-month grace period, but with a surcharge on the fee. If that grace period also passes, the trademark expires. And here's the most painful part: you also lose the legal seniority you've accumulated. If someone registers that same name afterward, they start from scratch with all rights in their favor. My recommendation: note the renewal date in your calendar as soon as you register the trademark, not when it's approaching. 10 years pass faster than you think for an administrative procedure. Do you have the renewal date of your trademarks under control, or would you not be able to say when it's due?
